What makes Joyous Learning Academy different from other tuition centres?
At Joyous Learning Academy, we design our own learning materials, teach students how to think clearly, and build strong foundations before moving into advanced application and exam strategies.
We strongly believe that learning should be joyous! Children learn better when they enjoy coming to class, feel comfortable asking questions and are not afraid to make mistakes. We still believe in hard work, practice and drilling — we simply believe they work better when children are engaged and happy to learn.
What subjects does Joyous Learning Academy offer?
We offer Upper Primary tuition programmes in English, Thinking Writer (creative writing), Mathematics and Science and Secondary tuition programmes in English and Mathematics. Our lessons are designed to strengthen understanding, improve confidence, and help students perform better in school examinations and national exams such as the PSLE and O-Levels.
Are your teachers former MOE teachers?
All of our teachers are experienced former MOE educators with strong classroom teaching experience and a deep understanding of the Singapore education system. Our teachers focus on clear explanations, structured learning, and helping students build strong academic foundations.
Is your curriculum aligned with the MOE syllabus?
Yes. Our programmes are designed around the MOE syllabus and the skills students are expected to develop at each level.
How big are your class sizes?
We cap our classes at 9 students because we believe teachers need to know their students well. It allows us to identify gaps early, give targeted feedback and ensure students are actively involved in every lesson.
Do you use assessment books or your own materials?
Our teachers design and develop in-house learning materials to complement the MOE syllabus.
This allows us to tailor lessons around the specific skills students need — whether that is comprehension, composition writing, mathematical problem-solving or Science application.
However, we do not simply follow the textbook or rush through the syllabus. Our teachers develop and refine our own learning materials to strengthen foundations, address common mistakes, and give students opportunities to tackle questions that require deeper thinking and application.
Do students receive learning materials?
Yes. Students receive carefully designed lesson materials, worksheets, and guided practice resources prepared by our teachers to support classroom learning and revision.
What age range of students does Joyous Learning Academy cater to?
Joyous Learning Academy caters to upper primary and secondary school students, which typically range from 10 to 16 years old. We will request for your child’s date of birth during registration.
What is the duration of the class?
Each lesson is 2 hours.
How do I know which programme is suitable for my child?
The right programme depends on your child's current level, learning needs and academic goals.
Some students need to strengthen their foundations, while others need more challenging questions and higher-level application. We recommend speaking with our team so that we can understand your child's needs and recommend a suitable class/ teacher.
How do you support students who are struggling?
We first identify where the learning gap is rather than simply giving students more practice. Our teachers break down difficult concepts, provide clear explanations and guide students through the thinking process, helping students understand why an answer is correct and gradually become more independent.
We believe in working closely with parents too. Every child learns differently, and while group tuition works very well for many students, it may not be the best fit for everyone. If we feel a child would benefit from more specialised or individualised support, we will speak with parents and work with them to find the approach that best meets the child’s needs.
Can my child join during the school term?
Yes, subject to availability and suitability of the class.
Before enrolling, we recommend speaking with our team so that we can determine the most appropriate class for your child and advise on how they can catch up with the programme if necessary.
Do you offer PSLE tuition?
Yes. We offer Upper Primary English, Mathematics and Science programmes that help students build the knowledge, application skills and answering techniques needed for the PSLE.
Our approach focuses on developing strong foundations throughout the year rather than relying solely on intensive revision immediately before the examination.
Do you teach PSLE English composition and synthesis?
Yes. Our Primary English programme covers key PSLE English skills including composition writing, comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, synthesis and transformation, and oral communication.
For composition writing, students learn how to develop ideas, structure their writing and use language effectively rather than simply memorising model compositions.
For synthesis and transformation, students are taught how to recognise sentence structures and apply the appropriate grammatical transformations accurately.
Do you teach PSLE Science open-ended questions?
Yes. We place emphasis on helping students understand how to apply Science concepts to unfamiliar situations and express their answers accurately.
Students are guided on how to identify the key information in a question, explain scientific concepts clearly and structure answers appropriately for open-ended questions.
When should my child start PSLE preparation?
PSLE preparation should ideally begin well before the final few months of Primary 6.
A strong PSLE foundation is built progressively through Primary 5 and Primary 6. Starting earlier gives students time to identify and address learning gaps, strengthen core concepts and develop confidence with different question types without having to rush through everything close to the examination.
Do you offer Secondary and O-Level tuition?
Yes. We offer Secondary 1 to 4 English and Secondary 1 to 2 Mathematics tuition programmes that help students strengthen understanding, improve answering techniques, and prepare effectively for school assessments and O-Level examinations.
Do you offer O-Level preparation?
Yes. Our Secondary programmes help students build the subject knowledge, application skills and examination techniques required for their school examinations and, where applicable, O-Level preparation.
Students are encouraged to develop strong foundations early rather than relying on last-minute examination preparation.
Can you help my child transition from PSLE to Secondary school?
Yes. The transition from Primary to Secondary school can be challenging because students encounter new subjects, greater academic demands and different question formats.
Our Secondary programmes help students build the foundations needed for this transition while developing greater independence in learning.
For students moving into Secondary 1 Mathematics, in particular, we focus on establishing a strong foundation in the new Secondary Mathematics curriculum from the start.
Do you offer trial lessons?
Yes. We offer one complimentary trial lesson per subject. A trial gives your child an opportunity to experience our teaching approach and allows us to better understand their learning needs before enrolment.
Parents may contact us to arrange trial lessons and programme recommendations.
Can I visit the centre before enrolling?
Yes. Parents are welcome to arrange a visit by appointment. Our team can walk you through our programmes, class structure and learning approach and answer any questions you may have.
How do I enrol my child?
You can contact us to discuss your child's current level, learning needs and the programme you are interested in. Our team will then advise you on suitable classes and available places.
Once you have selected a programme and confirmed enrolment, we will provide the relevant registration and payment details.
How much are the tuition fees?
Please refer to the fees page for the fees. There is a one-time registration fee of $50 and a refundable deposit of $180 per subject.
Are there material fees?
No. We do not charge extra for worksheets and materials.
When do I get a refund of my deposit?
The deposit of $180 per subject will be refunded within a week after your child’s last lesson.
Do you offer siblings or multiple course discounts?
Yes, we do! The discount is counted at the parent level, so the total number of courses your children take decides it — for example, if Sibling A is enrolled in 1 course and Sibling B in 2 courses, the total is counted as 3.
2nd course: $15 discount
3rd course: $20 discount
4th course onwards: $25 discount
What are the payment methods?
Payment can be made by:
Bank Transfer
PayNow
Do classes run throughout the year?
Yes, our classes run continuously until end-November. In December, our teachers and support team take a short break for the holiday season.
What about replacement class?
If a class falls on a public holiday or the student is absent, the student may attend a similar class within the same week (subject to availability). Otherwise, a Zoom recording will be provided (except Secondary classes, where materials will be given instead). No refunds or proration if replacement cannot be arranged.
I plan to go on a family vacation during the school holiday. Can I suspend lessons?
There is no fee suspension during travel or absences. We will provide zoom recordings for the missed lessons.
For Secondary classes, there will not be any zoom recordings. Materials will be given instead.
Still unsure about something?
